    Suicide Prevention Day…

I saw a quote today that said ‘it isn’t weak to ask for help. It’s like using a flashlight when your lost in the dark’

It got me thinking about what we and many others are trying to do with our social media presence. Sometimes things feel heavy and muffled, but one message we will always strive to convey is you are not alone…

    🌿 CURRY AND A CONVERSATION!

I don’t even know where to begin, what a night! Incredible.

To all 50 of the men that walked through the door, to the amazing man that got them there, to the amazing men that provided the food…..it was so moving to be apart of! Men can’t speak, won’t speak! Yet 50, mostly strangers, sat in a room together last night and talked about everything! Those that walked in lonely, walked out with a new friend! Those that were taught not to verbalise emotions, walked out recognising it’s ok to be vulnerable! And some even agreed to reach out for the right help!

This is the first of many and I can’t wait to watch it grow and help so many people!

Please, be apart of the next one, and if you are struggling know that there is someone else out there that wants to sit and have a “curry and a conversation with you”!

Much love always,

Lauren 🤍

🌿 BREAK THE STIGMA - BLOKES CAN BE BLOKES STILL EVEN WHEN THEY DO RECOGNISE MENTAL HEALTH

“Rub some dirt in it mate” “grow a pair” “what are you a bloody pussy”

I have heard all these things said to a man who has vocalised their feelings. Whether that be in reference to how they are feeling or how they feel about someone else. Men internalise that as “it’s not manly to discuss my mental health” or “it makes me less of a man for struggling”

WELL…..maybe if we encouraged instead of criticised and promoted instead of minimised our prisons wouldn’t be so crowded, domestic violence wouldn’t be at a record high and drug and alcohol misuse wouldn’t be the norm!

Ask yourself this….why do men turn to maladaptive emotional coping strategies instead of talking? BECAUSE we don’t give them the platforms, freedom and respect to talk.

Just a few days away from our men’s mental health evening.

Would love to see some of you there 🤍

🌿 ALWAYS CHECK ON YOUR MATES

You could be the one to be the ear.
You could be the one to change someone’s life path.
You could make the difference to someone taking that step to get help or not.

BE THAT GUY.

    🌿 MENS MENTAL HEALTH…

There doesn’t always have to be a background story or a terrible childhood for a man to experience struggles with their mental health. Sometimes men have bad things happen in their life too, despite the majority of society promoting masculinity that prevent men from verbalising their struggles.

I am going to use Moses to explain:

MOSES THE BASENJI……..

Moses was a happy puppy with a happy life. He was attacked by a husky, had his man hood removed and was abused by a dog walker in his own home, someone he trusted would take care of him! As a result Moses behaviour started to change. He would growl if anyone tried to touch him, which made him even more isolated, he didn’t want to hang around with his pals anymore and would growl at them too and he would become anxious if anyone came into his home that he did not know, often pacing and panting.

Suddenly, Moses became sad. He would sleep a lot during the day and lost his spark when out on his walks. However, when we noticed this - we took our time with Moses, we have slowly tried to reintroduce people into his life with positive reinforcement and have praised him when he does something good. Moses has made incredible progress!

THE ANALOGY HERE: Sometimes bad things happen to men too, it’s ok to accept the help when it’s offered and to be supported to get back on the right path to recovery. Even just having someone to talk to and to listen can redirect a life path - one that may have turned to unhelpful coping strategies, unhelpful reactions and isolate themselves from others! This can make things worse….

We are a therapy service that is always willing to listen 🤍

Keep this going.........

To all the men that have messaged me about the event, thank you.

27 places at the table booked! Walk ins definitely welcome.

Being asked why I've organised the event. Simple. If we dont make it easier to talk about Men's Mental Health, then we're letting each other down.

Whatever you talk about on the night is up to you. Have that conversation with people you don't know, you never how that conversation may help.

Keep this going!

SO INCREDIBLY PROUD TO BE APART OF THIS ♥️ PLEASE SHARE!

The first event is an informal evening, organised by Ed Wiggans, will take place at The Waltham Tandoori on Wednesday, September 9th, from 6.30pm.

Ed said the event would give men an opportunity to make friends, enjoy good food and find out where they can seek help if needed.

He said: “It’s an event for men to get together and understand that it’s okay to talk. It’s an event for men to understand that they can be signposted in the right direction.

“I took that step and sought advice when I didn’t understand the emotions I was dealing with when my father was ill.”

Lauren from Identity Therapeutic Services @identity_therapies will attend to offer information, answer questions and support informal discussion. Information has also been provided by Andy’s Man Club and Cruse Bereavement Support. ♥️

“I took that step and sought advice when I didn’t understand the emotions I was dealing with when my father was ill.” Lauren from Identity Therapeutic Services @identity_therapies will attend to offer information, answer questions and support informal discussion. Information has also been provided by Andy’s Man Club and Cruse Bereavement Support. ♥️

🌿 I AM THE SORT OF THERAPIST WHO…..

I have heard so many bad experiences of therapy, especially the client-therapist relationships. I don’t ever want to be that therapist that breaks down the relationship because of something I have said or done. I always want you to feel heard, respected and cared about! Every single person should be made to feel completely individual, and like the only client that has ever mattered!!

We would love to review our practise and welcome your feedback on your therapy experiences ♥️

Sending so much love!
