FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)?

CBT is an evidence based ‘talking therapy’ which focuses on the difficulties that you are currently experiencing in your day to day life, right now. It is based on the concept that every situation we face in life we respond in four different ways; how we think, how we feel, what we do and the physical sensations within our body. For example if one is unhelpful, all of the others will be to. CBT focuses on your thoughts and behaviours, supporting you in exploring more helpful adaptations.

  • How do I know if CBT can help me?

I offer a free initial telephone consultation where I can give you more information and we can discuss the suitability of your symptoms for CBT. Following this as part of your assessment session I will share more information with you that I hope will help to make your decision. I will always support you in signposting to other services if CBT is not for you.

  • What should I expect from my CBT sessions?

The therapy sessions will consist of mapping out your difficulties, setting goals and then working towards these through CBT tools and techniques. We do spend a short time exploring past difficulties as they help us understand and make sense of the current thoughts and feelings you are experiencing. There will be work that you will have to complete between sessions, which will be collaboratively set and will correlate with your goals. We will use questionnaires to track your progress.
